I grew up in the small town of Sundre in Alberta, Canada. At a very early age I began working in the office of my father's garage and G.M.A.C. dealership. Each fall we always got so excited about the new cars coming out for the next year. Of course, there were many fewer cars available then and it was easy to remember the look of each one. In 1956, my sister and two brothers convinced dad to buy a pink and charcoal Pontiac. We drove to California and I got to see the woodies with the surfboards that are so prevalent. I'm not sure if there were many woodies in Alberta then or it was just the images from California that stay in my memory. In 1992, we moved to Encinitas, a coastal California town north of San Diego. I instantly loved the old town feel and enjoyed the classic car Thursdays in the summer and the annual Woodie show at Encinitas' Moonlight Beach every September. Somehow the Woodies capture the feel of an era that was much less complex and maybe one where we had more leisure time. Perhaps this is just a dream but it is this warm nostalgic feeling I try to capture in my popular Woodie images. All are available as greeting cards and as art prints. Enjoy! |
